Reflexology

Reflexology has been practised for over 5000 years and was first introduced to the Western world over 100 years ago. Reflexology is a non-intrusive complementary therapy which is based on the theory that different ‘reflex points’ on the feet ( and hands) correspond with different areas/systems of the body. By working these reflex points it helps the patient to relax and helps improve overall well being.

Life today is very stressful. We are all guilty of running around whether it is work or social events. Stress can have a huge impact on our lives and it is so important to recognise when the stress is having a detrimental effect. Sometimes we just need to stop, reflect and breathe. Reflexology, therefore, has a powerful place in easing the stresses of modern life.

Will I benefit from a Reflexology treatment?

As a Reflexologist, I will not diagnose, prescribe or cure. I look at supporting the whole person and I look to promote your wellbeing. It is not possible to know how you will react to a treatment as everyone is so unique. However, most people will feel very relaxed, sleep better and their mood significantly increases.

The AOR ( The Association of Reflexologists ) are continually striving to make Reflexology more accessible to the public. There have been some positive research projects carried ut but not large enough to start making clinical claims of its effectiveness.

What will happen in a Reflexology treatment?

Reflexology is a very comfortable treatment to receive. You will need to remove your shoes and socks.

Like with all treatments that I carry out a full medical history will be taken and you will be requested to sign a consent form agreeing for the treatment to be carried out. All the information will be kept confidential and will not be shared with any third parties without your consent.

I will then use my thumbs and fingers to apply pressure to the feet. You may find some points are sensitive and tender when touched. This will pass. The overall experience should be relaxing.

At the end of each session I will talk to you about what I felt and I may recommend further treatment.

How will I feel after a Reflexology treatment?

After a few treatments, most people feel an improved sense of wellbeing. You may feel energised, you may feel sleepy. Become intune with your body and respect what it is telling you. Occasionally people have reported a mild headache, feeling tired or needing the toilet. These are all completely normal reactions and should pass within 48 hours.

What is the cost of a Reflexology session?

  • Child reflexology ( under 16) £20 for 30 minutes
  • Reflexology £40 for 60 minutes
